Portland Visit Day Three and Four

After this I can go back to normal updating! Except my life is far from normal right now.

To start day three we (shocker!) got coffee and bagels. We had already planned to only look at specific places we found on Craigslist, and then enjoy what was left of the day. But first... Farmers market!!! It was incredible. I'm happy to move to Portland just because of this market. And it's not the only one, they have a market somewhere in the city every day! I took enough pictures that I won't have to tell you much. Let me just say I could plan a menu for the week and bring a shopping list with me because the produce was endless. I can't wait to shop there every week :)

I left out a few pictures because I got
tired of uploading, ha. But you get the idea, beautiful! This was the Shemanski market in the Northwest area. So after grabbing some blackberries, tayberry jam, and cheddar cheese, we headed over to Voodoo Doughnut to get our tourist on. This place is known across the country, it's been featured on shows and such. So we figured we should check it out. They were delicious, but Tom and I don't usually eat stuff like that so it was definitely sugar overload. He had the Captain, My Captain, which was covered in Captain
Crunch, and I had the Maple Bacon Bar, which was covered in maple icing with, yes, bacon. Mine was better :)

After Voodoo we crossed the bridge back to the east side of
Portland and got ready to go check out our new apartment! Someone from the complex got in touch with us that morning and we scheduled an appointment to fill out our applications and see the model apartment. We had a little scare when I told the lady over the phone that Roxy is a shepherd mix and she
told us that German Shepherds are a restricted breed. So I
showed her pictures on my phone while we were filling out the application and she said Roxy looks fine! The apartment is perfect! Well, almost. It is a complex, which we were trying to stay away from. But it is only two stories, most of the buildings have a nice courtyard area, and it is a really nice homey feel. It is also a little further away than we were hoping, but it's only about 25 minutes by bike to get back over to the Northwest side (which is as far as we would need to
go) so it's still not bad! The area around the complex is nice and residential also, so it's pretty quiet. I'm super excited to move in and make it feel like home. I've never had a space that I wasn't sharing with another girl, so it will be nice to decorate the way I want too! I guess Tom can have some say... :)

The visit to our apartment was only to fill out the application, we didn't find out we had been approved for another four days, and then we paid the deposit. All that's left is moving in and paying rent! So after we visited this complex we decided we were done apartment hunting, and headed back to return our bikes.

Then we made the poor decision to walk to Pok Pok for dinner. The poor decision was walking, not Pok Pok. The walk was long and I just wished we still had our bikes. Biking seems tiring until
you get back on foot! Anyways, dinner made up for the walk. Best. Thai. food. EVER. Seriously. I
know I've been saying a lot of good things about the food there, but this was the icing on the
cake. For me, at least. After working at a Thai restaurant for three years I've really fallen in love with the cuisine and culture, I can't wait to go to Thailand one day! Back to the food. We started with the famous wings. Best wings I've ever had, hands down. They were marinated with fish sauce and palm sugar, fried, and then finished with caramelized fish sauce, garlic, and chili flake.

I'm sure we looked like animals sucking on those bones, but we didn't care. Everyone we saw out
on the patio with us also had an order of wings on the table at some point. SO GOOOOD. We also
started with papaya salad, which is a pretty simple thai dish that happens to be one of my favorites. The thai family I worked for loved making this for their parties and family meal, and it was always insanely spicy. It was at Pok Pok as well. I sucked on ice when we were done. But that makes me happy. For our entrees we shared Neua Naam Tok, another one of my thai
favorites, and Kaeng Hung Leh, a pork belly dish that was a little too rich for me after biking all
day and feeling a little dehydrated. It tasted amazing though! The atmosphere was perfect, too. Very laid back, string lights everywhere, bamboo. Very fun.

And the drinks! They had an amazing cocktail menu. I've never been to a Thai restaurant with a drink list like this. I had an Aperol drink first, then a vodka drink with a pickled plum, and then a peach julep, yum! Okay enough with the "yum" and "amazing." I should probably stop talking about food now.

After dinner we stopped by a bar before heading back to the hotel to get ready to see a movie. ($18 to see Horrible Bosses with a pitcher of IPA. Score.) We had a couple local beers and some
bourbon to celebrate a wonderful trip, and each others company. What a perfect way to reunite, doing what we love. Experiencing a new city and eating some of the best food it could provide. Needless to say, we are excited to go back.

Since I am on a roll I guess I can mention the trip back! Traveling with Tom was a lot more fun
than traveling alone, obviously. We had a pretty pitiful breakfast at the PDX airport before napping all the way to Denver, had lunch with a few drinks at the Denver airport, and then
played Gin Rummy on the plane to Atlanta. We made it home to a very excited Roxy and finished our game of Rummy (I guess that has become our new thing).

Final note, I know this post looks crazy. I'm tired of trying to fix it. I probably won't be using blogger much longer. Annoying.
