coffee shop. Then we headed out on the bikes to try another part of town. I don't even know what the actual "neighborhoods" were that we started in but it was on the east side of Portland, working our way up north. Right away we realized that we were going to have better luck than the day before. There were small complexes with rent information signs on every corner. So we started calling. Then we realized that even though there were plenty apartments for rent, none of them allow pets. This is when I start feeling bad because Roxy is my dog, not Tom's. So it's really my fault that we can't find a place to live. After calling the same management groups several times I realize there has to be a faster way to find a place that allows dogs. So one of the agents connected us with another agent that had specific listings that allow pets. But this woman said to call her when we move at the end of October. So it started to look like we wouldn't sign a lease while we were visiting. Tom was happy we found someone who could help us, but we decided to keep looking.
After no more promising leads we headed back to Hawthorne to get lunch and a couple of drinks at McMenamins. I tried to shop but he wasn't having it...

Hawthorne is a really cool part of the city, I can definitely see us spending a lot of time there. I loved people watching from the bar here, we saw all kinds of "typical" Portland hipsters that we were expecting to see. One of the guys at that table outside had ear gauges that were as big as my fist. Maybe not that big. But still ridiculous.
After that we biked for a few more miles around the city, got a couple addresses and phone
numbers that were promising and headed back to the hotel. Tom passed out when we got back and I spent an hour combing through Craigslist. After 12379827387 ads, I found one that allowed pets, was all hardwoods, and was a very reasonable price. So I responded to the ad via email and called the number listed and left a message. Then we went to Biwa for dinner! My first Ramen experience. It was AMAZING. We had a couple small plates to start with, and then we both had Ramen bowls. He demolished his (such an animal), but I couldn't do it. It was a giant bowl of noodles.
And then once again we were lame and didn't go out after. After all that food it's hard to think about drinking somewhere else. But that's okay because we need to save our money.
I'll talk about the last day tomorrow. At least I'm finally writing about the trip, it's been hard to find the time/motivation because I've been spending all of my time with Tom :)
