Okay, last post about Atlanta.
After Tom and I spent a month visiting with friends, finishing up at work, seeing our families, packing up our stuff, and getting rid of most of it, we were ready to go. Or so we thought.
I won't go into too many details about money but I will say one thing. Tom went to Alaska to work over the summer for one main reason. To make enough money to move across the country. A move like this takes a lot of saving. Which is hard to do with bills, rent, and a line cook's pay. So he worked for four months to make enough money to get us both to Portland. I contributed as well, but we wouldn't have made it if it wasn't for that. So when he got back from Alaska, we were waiting for his final check to arrive before we could leave. When it started getting closer to the date we were supposed to leave and it still hadn't arrived, we started to get worried. So after many phone calls, chasing down the mail lady a few times, and having to stay with a few people once I got kicked out of my apartment, it finally came. Basically I gave my landlord a date that I was leaving by. When we realized that wasn't going to happen I asked if we could stay for a few more days. That was fine. But then I had to ask for a few more and he said it wouldn't work because he needed to fix up the place for the new tenants. So Tom and I were officially homeless. We ended up staying with Tatyana and Joe for a couple nights. Which happened to be a blast, even though we slept on an air mattress on the living room floor. That was the weekend of the Little Five Points Halloween Parade, so we all got dressed up and headed downtown. We had a blast, I'm so glad we got to spend some time with them before we left. Here are a few pictures of the madness.
Then the weekend was over and we knew we needed to leave Tatyana and Joe's place and let them get back to work. So we spend the last night with my parents. Which was also great, we had a nice dinner and got to spend some time with the whole family. The next morning we headed back downtown to check the mail, and it was there! We were off! Monday, October 24, 2011 we left Atlanta and started the drive to Portland, Oregon.
