Roadtrip: From Georgia to New Mexico

Excuse the stamp over the date. I'm so tired of working on the layout of this page that I don't even care anymore. Today is December 6, 2011. And I'm going to tell you about our road trip.

I left off on Monday, October 23. We left Atlanta around noon and made it to Fort Smith, Arkansas that night. That day was pretty uneventful. Tom's radio was stolen right when we got the Jeep back in Atlanta so we purchased an iPod player for the ride. We listened to music for a few hours before the battery died. When we started getting close to Fort Smith it was pretty late at night, around 2 am, and Tom was getting tired. I wasn't much help, I kept falling asleep so he didn't have any entertainment. He ended up missing the exit for the KOA because he was so tired, and we started running out of gas. Thankfully we made it to a gas station right in time, and then set up camp at KOA, Fort Smith. I've never camped at a KOA campsite before. They are actually pretty nice. You pay about $20 to have a little piece of land big enough for your vehicle and a tent, and usually there is a water spout and a grill. You also have access to the bathrooms on site. Every one we stayed at was different, this one was pretty nice. There wasn't anyone else around us and there was plenty of room for Roxy to run around. I didn't sleep very well though because Roxy was growling all night. Yes, she stayed in the tent with us. And someone started walking around at 6 am that made her bark. Anyways. Here are a couple pictures from that first day.

I tried to get pictures of all the state signs. I missed a couple :(

Boring Mississippi

Our bug graveyard

Tennessee

Day two was pretty uneventful as well. We drove though Oklahoma, Texas, and part of New Mexico. Texas is not fun to drive though. Very... flat. Pictures from day two...

Oklahoma :(

He drove the entire trip. Ridiculous.

And I took a million pictures of Roxy because she was so perfect the whole time. She just wanted to sleep near us.

Oklahoma City

Ha, how we kept the iPod player and our phones charged.

Cool

Again.

Welcome to Texas.

And New Mexico.

We spent the night at the Albuquerque KOA and then woke up early again to check out the city for a couple hours before we headed to Arizona. We are breakfast at Frontier, it had hundreds of great Yelp reviews, and I discovered that they had made it on Man vs. Food. I'm so glad we went. I had an amazing breakfast burrito, and we had a cinnamon roll that was ridiculous. They also have a machine that makes fresh squeezed orange juice right behind the counter. It looked like a big cafeteria, you ordered at a counter and picked a seat. But it was definitely one of the best meals we had on the trip.

Speaking of meals, I forgot to mention what we ate the whole trip. I brought a small cooler with veggies, chicken salad, hummus, homemade pimento cheese, boiled eggs, and almond butter, and we also had pumpkin bread (thanks Mom!), homemade trail mix, and dried mango. So for the most part we just snacked in the Jeep while we were on the road. It kept us from eating fast food or spending too much money.

I'm going to end this post with pictures from that morning, I took a lot of pictures from this day so I'll start a new post later. This is when the trip really started getting exciting, finally some mountains and good scenery :)

Perfect morning in Albuquerque.

Finally some mountains.

My breakfast burrito.

Sooo good.

Look at all that butter.

Another side note, the pictures started really getting good when I started playing around with my iPhone camera with Instagram and Camera+. I love my phone.
